Lessons from a Dreary Winter's Evening

The gray gloom

of a dreary northern winter

is transitioning into dusk.

Outside, comes the sound of rain

gently hitting the leaves.

Cup of coffee in hand,

babe is sleeping in the next room

while the oldest one plays by my feet.

I put pen to worn paper.

Sometimes

in the busy of it all

I forget.

I forget the why that is made up

of these simple moments.

And

I am slowly remembering

to put the busy aside

to watch, engage, partake

in the ones I love

and these moments that are simple

and my why.
